winter morning {january 4, 2022}

Cold weather is mostly associated with the holidays, but once Christmas has come and gone, we're left with bitter temperatures and typically some snow. This morning was trash pick up and before fixing coffee or turning on my computer, I ran a bag of trash out to the garbage can. In the quiet morning, frost covered the grass and waste receptacles, the air was cold and crisp, the puddles from the rain had frozen. The unexpected smack of the cold and deep breaths of the fresh, freezing air energized me better than any cup of coffee.

Sure, it's a long countdown until spring (77 days), but as you wait for flowers to bloom, embrace the winter: its quiet, the monotone and more neutral colors, the cold. It's all a precursor to the newness and appreciation for spring.
