My friend and her husband are successful realtors in Columbus, OH, and they recently scored an amazing listing.
"The original home to former US Senator & astronaut, John Glenn. Designed in collaboration w/ renowned architect, Woody Acock. A true masterpiece. This sprawling ranch w/ breathtaking views of the Scioto River is nestled on over an acre of beautiful, mature landscaping. Sitting at the highest point between the bridges w/ Griggs Park just across the river, so that no traffic can be seen from Riverside Drive, day or night. A private, secluded cove is where you will find the boat dock w/ Trex decking, perfect for parking all boat equipment. Other noteworthy features include the large stone patios, tranquil stone landscaped waterfall and additional workshop for water toys, grandfathered to allow for a fenced yard."
From the front, this looks like just a nice house. It's the back of the house with the wow factor: a wall of windows looking out at the Scioto River, the window in the loft that John Glenn specifically requested so he could stargaze at night, the floating staircase going up to the loft, the wooded backyard, and just the fact that this was John Glenn's house.
Back in 2003, Dayton celebrated its the Wright Brothers with "Inventing Flight," an 18-day centennial bash to honor its hometown heroes and their first flight. John Glenn was one of the guest visitors. He took time to speak with my 12-year old son and signed a program for him. Such a kind and gracious man.
Neat house, and a bit of history
