This just gave me a chuckle because it's so true. It's a tried and true winter recipe. All you need is a little snow, ice and snow plows to clear the streets, cars on the roads, a little melt and voila!
A few years ago I visited a friend in Arizona. She was born and raised in Ohio and after college she left the state and landed in Arizona. One of the things that she did not miss was all the winter slush that dirtied her car. It's so true...this stuff gets on your car, you can't go to the car wash because it's too cold, so everyone drives around with winter ugly cars. The first day that it gets above 32° there's a mad dash to the car wash and then you have to sit and wait a long, long time for your turn to go through the car wash.
But it's winter in Ohio and that's part of the Buckeye state charm.
Just a little farther south, and it is generally possible to avoid driving in the slush.
ReplyDeleteIt's been a very long time since I lived in Illinois but I have strong memories of slush that looked just like that and of cars exactly as you described.
