On a bitterly cold winter day, friends and family gathered to celebrate a man who lived a life full of love and joy. The chaplain gave the obligatory scripture readings but then she also gave an acronym to describe this wonderful man. Keith was a HERO.
HERO
H…Happy eyes. Just look at those eyes. Keith loved life and his eyes and his eyes reflected that love.
E…Encourager. Keith was everyone’s cheerleader. He wanted people to succeed, to be happy, to feel loved.
R…Relational. Keith was a people person and loved to build relationships. He made everyone feel important and even though he had the gift of gab, he listened to what you had to say.
O…Ornery. This wonderful human had a BIG rascally streak!
In another aspect of life, Keith was a true hero. He fought cancer for over 10 years. The man had 9 lives, probably more. His love for his children and grandchildren, his love for Cleveland sports and the eternal hope that the Browns would win a Super Bowl, his love for the Purdue Boilermakers and disdain for the Ohio State Buckeyes, and his always present joie de vivre gave him the strength to keep going and going. No matter how lousy he felt or how bad he hurt, he stayed positive. What an inspiration.
