spring forward {march 13, 2022}

Random thoughts on a Sunday morning as T is in it's-time-to-get-back-to-Ohio driving mode...

 I do enjoy the fickleness of the days approaching spring. One day it's sunny with pleasant temps, lots of people out and about dressed in light weight clothing and the next a snowy winter day, not as many people out and about and those who are, are bundled up in their big coats, boots, hats, and gloves.

Spring flowers are blooming, trees are filling with buds, and thus begins itchy allergy eyes for me. No complaints. Zyrtec on the ready for the next few weeks.

NYT Mini Crossword clue: Big budget ticket for a wedding. Got that one in no time. My daughter is getting married in April.

We took I-68, aka the National Freeway, on the drive back to OH. It parallels Rt. 40, aka the National Road. Maryland has always used the name "National Freeway" for this highway from the time that it was first planned, and the reason why is because it parallels the corridor of the old National Road built back in the 1800s. I-68 in conjunction with I-79 provides a toll-free alternate route to the I-70 portion of the Pennsylvania Turnpike. The Sideling Hill Cut moved 4.5 million cubic yards, or about 10 million tons, of rock. Most of the rock was crushed and used to make the road bed leading to the cut.

The Sideling Hill road cut from a distance. That's where we're headed.

 Allegany (Maryland) v. Allegheny (Pennsylvania). Allegheny is the early French spelling (as in Allegheny River, which was once part of New France), and Allegany is closer to the early English spelling.

Last but not least...Our neighborhood "What's Happening" app has been following the search for a lost dog, Louie, who has been lost for 37 days. He crossed the frozen Scioto River a couple times and his owners thought he may have been lost to the river. Happy ending time...Louie has been found, is quite a few pounds lighter, and is reunited with his family.
