A quick decision to take a road trip to the A10 Tournament in Washington DC to cheer on the Dayton Flyers.
Before the game, we took advantage of the beautiful day and just walked around Georgetown and then over to the Capital One Arena area. While in Georgetown, we walked past the Embassy of Ukraine. The flower bouquets and signs that people left are so heartfelt. I wish there was something more that I could do other than pray for these brave people.
There is a memorial in Washington DC that is dedicated to the millions of people of Ukraine who perished in the man-made famine of 1932-1933 known as the Holodomor - death by starvation. Joseph Stalin, the leader of the Soviet Union, wanted to rapidly transform Ukraine into an industrialized, Russian-led, communist world power. Part of the plan was to collectivize agriculture, meaning farmers had to surrender their crop to the state for redistribution among the entire population. The plan led to widespread starvation, which some scholars argue was intentional.

And then after a day of sight-seeing, it was game time. And what an on-the-edge-of-your-seat, nail biter of a game. The Flyers were off their game but managed to pull out the win in the last minute.
Welcome to DC, I hope you get don't get caught in today's' nasty weather. Jose Andres World Central Kitchen is on the ground feeding people in Ukraine. https://wck.org/ We can support them at. Jose is a genuine nice guy, I have talked with him a few times, and a great chef. He has a couple of restaurants around Gallery Place.
