Ohio’s Miami Valley region provides over 350 miles of paved, multi-use recreational trails that stretch across county lines, connecting schools, parks, historic landmarks and area attractions. Cyclists can travel through meadows, countryside, forested areas and city centers while on the paths.
The other day while driving around town, I had an errand in Beavercreek and on the way back stopped by its 911 Memorial. This memorial is right by one of the bike paths. Next to the path was a statue of Bicycle Beaver. It made me smile because in one of the blogs I read An Absolutely Wonderful Scots Adventure, the blog's author writes about statues of Scotties by the Sea. St. Andrew's has its Scotties; Beavercreek has its beavers.
What was the purpose behind these statues? In 2005, a local artist was commissioned to carve the original 1600 pound beaver model in his workshop in anticipation Beavercreek's 25th anniversary of being an incorporated city. This model was shipped off to a fiber glass company which created 25 fiber glass beavers for artists to decorate. The beavers were placed in various locations around town.
Bicycle Beaver is aptly placed at Beavercreek Station along the Creekside Trail.
I love the art beavers.
