Who hasn’t wandered a beach or forest and tucked a sparkling stone or shell or chewed up walnut into their pocket? As a kid, I was continually stuffing my pockets with strange and wonderful “treasures.” I could turn a five-minute walk into a 30-minute treasure hunt.
As an adult, I’m still filling my pockets with “stuff.” Our couple days on Anna Maria Island were filled with beach walks and shell collecting. One morning, I told myself, “Walk, don’t collect.” Didn’t work. I’d see a shell, reach down to pick it up, only to see a lot more that needed perusal. Slow down, take a breath, smile, and find beauty where you are.
