Grainger County, nestled in the eastern part of Tennessee, seems like another unassuming rural region but this rural county is well known throughout the produce world for its one delicious, prized crop – the tomato.
Over the years, Grainger County tomatoes have been a tomato that was desired above most other tomatoes because of their rich garden flavor and their homegrown appearance and texture. Grainger County is limestone country, and it's the limestone-based soil that makes the tomatoes both sweet and tart.
I'm bringing a box of these tomatoes back with me to Ohio. Bring on the tomato sandwiches. Nothing better than a plump red tomato sliced thick and placed between two slices of white bread slathered with Miracle Whip. Ahhhh...the ultimate summer enjoyment!
And a nice tomato salad, looks wonderful
