monday's mulling: a forced unplugging {august 7, 2023}

Our lake weekend had an unexpected circumstance, no WiFi. I had my posts scheduled through last Friday and was planning to work on a couple to get me through today. Obviously, it didn't happen. No WiFi, my daughter had a horrible muscle spasm in her neck and she needed to go to the emergency clinic.I  thought I would get a few posts in while sitting in the clinic's waiting room but instead I went to the exam room with her. (Nice to know my grown and very independent daughter wanted Mom to be with her 😊). I like to use my computer to do my blogging and the lack of internet connection put it out of commission for a few days. I also made the decision to stay off my phone while at the lake, except for taking photos, and for me, it was easy to unplug. Boat rides, watching the moonrise and sunrise, talking with friends, cooking, taking walks; it was the time and place to disconnect.

sunrise {august 6, 2023}

Moonrise over the lake is spectacular but the sunrise is equally spectacular. Before the sun peeks over the trees, its orange light reflects on the lake, quietly signaling the beginning of a new day. Such a peaceful and relaxing time to watch Mother Nature's glorious morning greeting.

moonrise {august 5, 2023}

August is an exciting month for moon lovers, with this summer month opening and closing with supermoons. The Full Sturgeon Moon rose on August 1, and the month will close with the Full Blue Moon on August 30.

On August 1 and 2, I watched the big orange ball of moon rise over the trees, tried to take a few photos, and they came nowhere close to depicting the beauty in the sky. So I sat on my porch and enjoyed the celestial moment.

On a quick trip to a friend's lake house, we sat on the porch and watched the waning full moon rise over Snow Lake. The reflections from the moon, the house lights, the blinking red lights on the tower, created such a beautiful moment and I had to try again to capture this beautiful scene with my iPhone. I caught the moment and and you can use your imagination to figure out how beautiful it was. It's a reminder of a peaceful, easy feeling sharing laughs and a good glass of Scotch (wine for me) with friends and family.

The next supermoon will rise on August 30. It's called the Super Blue Full Moon. August 30 is my daughter's birthday, she is pregnant with her first child and the baby is due in February. I predict a little grandson 💙

old school {august 4, 2023}

If my mom was still on this earth, today would have been her 92nd birthday. She had basic computer use skills, didn't want a cell phone, and didn't understand why people always had their noses so close to their phones or why they paid so much attention to their phones and not to each other. She saw how the phone changed the way people interacted with one another and she did not approve!

Sunset on the Ronald Reagan Highway...keep your eyes on the road and on the other drivers around you, not on your phones. This October, distracted driving laws go into effect in Ohio. Took us long enough.

Dairy Queen chocolate cone dipped in chocolate...my favorite!

Summers on my grandparents' back porch snapping green beans, shelling peas, and husking corn with my siblings and cousins.

turn on your life! {august 3, 2023}

Just recently, I've read quite a few articles regarding the invasiveness of technology on our lives and how it can affect relationships with those around us, our attention spans, the capacity for learning, conversation skills, eye-to-eye contact in conversations, the list goes on and on. Technology is here to stay but we need to find that happy medium where it is a useful tool and not an addiction.

Turn off your phone and turn on your life!
