busy bee

On the lone sunflower in the recently planted sunflower field, a single bumblebee diligently gathers pollen.

The moment a bee lands on a flower, the pollen gets knocked off the florets and sticks to the bee's body. This busy one is having a field day...look at that pollen all over its body!

"The bee is more honored than other animals, not because she labors, but because she labors for others."
— Saint John Chrysostom

  1. We have lots of bees here, both honeybees and bumblebees. This has been a bumper year for them with plenty of pollen so the local honey producers have been able to provide us with plenty of goodness!
I bought another jar yesterday at the Farmers' Market stall. Heather honey from just a mile or so away. Yum.

    1. There are beehives at the farm where I work. I always buy a jar or two. It's local and so delicious! Yum.

  2. Beautiful pictures. We found a praying mantis on one of our sunflowers yesterday evening; it's been years since we saw one.
